Abstract – A significant importance of the modern challenge of ensuring chemical safety in the Russian Federation is emphasized in connection with a recent escalation of chemical threats to the well-being of the population and the environment. The addressing of this challenge is a priority task for the Government of Russia, which is focused on reducing to an acceptable level the risk of exposure of the biosphere, technosphere and ecological system to hazardous chemical and biological factors. An important role in the implementation of the above task will be assigned to Chemical Safety Science, a newly created journal founded by Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, whose main goal is to analyze and promptly disseminate scientific and technical information on various issues of ensuring chemical safety of Russia and other countries.

Keywords: chemical safety, chemical threat, risk mitigation, hazardous chemicals.
