Abstract – The results of calculations of waste hazard class are presented referring to wastes hazardous for humans and environment which are accumulated in the tailing pond named “Black Hole” located in the vicinity of the city of Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region, and formerly assigned to the “Orgsteklo“ enterprize. The calculations were carried out by means of a training and research module “Classification of wastes” developed by the Department of computer-integrated systems in chemical technology of the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. A search was performed for 47 waste components with respect to about 350 primary hazard indicators collected in reference books, regulatory documents and databases. Possible options of using waste classification results are suggested.
